Work in the Pilbara
In the last decade, the Pilbara has been the powerhouse of economic growth for Western Australia and the nation.
The Pilbara region contributes nearly 15 per cent of WA’s total economic output. A quarter of the State Government's annual revenue can be attributed to royalties paid by mining in the region.
Growth is set to continue with $170 billion worth of projects under consideration, committed or under construction in the region. Examples of this is Woodside's Pluto 2 LNG train and Perdaman's Urea manufacturing plant.
The Pilbara is an economic powerhouse in the region, accounting for almost 60,000 jobs. The labour market in the Pilbara region has been one of the strongest in the country, with sustained low levels of unemployment over the past two decades. The average unemployment rate was just 1.8% in September 2022.
